To quote Voltaire or, if you prefer, Superman – With great power, comes great responsibility. We hear about climate change and the ecological crisis everywhere, but there are not so many voices about what to do about it. Unfortunately, we will not write to you that we have discovered the secret of how to save the Planet, or that from today we will not magically pollute the environment. But we will tell you about how we understand our responsibility, why we decided to join the organization. 1% for the Planet and how every day we try to be that one percent better for Nature.

Do you know what our biggest dream is?

So that our children can swim in a clean lake, see a seal on the Baltic Sea and build a hut out of sticks in the countryside. So that each of us has the opportunity to escape to the mountains, jump on a bike over Biebrza or drink coffee on a terrace in the forest and simply relax as we like, surrounded by Nature. Instead of cutting down forests, we want to plant them, instead of poisoning seas, lakes and rivers in the name of development - invest in their purification, protect mountains from being trampled and beaches from destruction.

And since it is natural for us to take care of what is important, we join 1% for the Planet — an international organization connecting business with foundations and organizations working for environmental protection. As a part of it, every year we will donate 1 percent of our income to local, verified initiatives that care for the nature around us.

What is 1% for the Planet

1% for the Planet to a global non-profit organization that encourages businesses and individuals to support environmental organizations. Members commit to donating at least 1% of their annual revenue to environmental foundations and organizations. The idea was started by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, in 2002. The goal is to connect businesses and individuals with nonprofits who work together to fund a variety of environmental projects aimed at ensuring a better future for the planet through effective conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.

1% for the Planet has been supporting Nature for 20 years

The whole campaign was created based on the idea that companies and businesses have a responsibility to give back for using the Planet's resources. 1% for the Planet was created by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews - founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, out of a sense of corporate responsibility for climate change. Since then, the organization has grown and expanded its activities around the world, helping thousands of companies to be more involved in protecting the environment.

Being part of the project, members commit to donating at least 1% of annual revenue directly to environmental organizations. 1% for the Planet certifies every donation to ensure that companies actually meet this commitment. The phenomenon of so-called greenwashing, or (in the most general sense) the use of company marketing communications that are based on false or misleading declarations regarding the compliance of the product or its components with environmental protection principles1.

The world of our dreams

At AlohaCamp we want to inspire to spend time in Nature, because we know how positively it affects our well-being, creativity and health. We want to leave this world a better place for our children and future generations, so the decision to join the program was only a matter of time (and of course meeting the requirements).

By putting Nature first, we want to influence the way we all live and relax, facilitating access to the benefits of spending time in nature and creating beautiful memories through access to a useful online platform.

1% is a lot or a little? What brands are next to us

Someone might say that one percent is little, or almost nothing. And yes, you can look at it that way, but it's like not sorting garbage, because one person won't change anything. Or pouring tons of water, taking hour-long baths every day, because it makes no difference.

But changes begin when each additional person throws a plastic bottle into an appropriate container or turns off the water. Changes begin where another company donates 1 percent to nature conservation and where at least one person changes their approach and Attitude to Nature.

10 Rules for Taking Care of Nature According to AlohaCamp

1% for the Planet can also be supported as an individual. You certainly have local organizations or foundations around you that are involved in pro-ecological activities in various ways. Additionally, you can introduce some or all of the following habits yourself:

1. Don't litter neither on the street, nor in the forest, nor on the beach, and in fact it's just don't litter anywhere; there's nothing worse than having empty packages lying around on your lawn or finding cigarette butts in the warm sand at the beach.

2. Respect Nature wherever you are – do not destroy trees, burrows or nests, do not scare animals or feed them. Do not light fires in flammable places such as forests or meadows. Treat Nature as someone's home and try to behave the way you would like or would like someone to behave in yours.

3. Sort your waste, and if you don't know where to throw away specific products, you can check out this site, for example - Waste segregation rules in Warsaw.

4. Use reusable bags, preferably fabric or paper (although we know that these are less durable).

5. When shopping for groceries buy products by weight and if you can, avoid disposable plastic bags.

6. Choose products in recyclable packaging.

7. Drink water from a filter jug or tap instead of buying bottled water – it is not only saving the environment, but also your wallet,

8. Use your dishwasher in eco mode, which consumes less power than standard modes.

9. If you don't have to, then do not print or print double-sided.

10. Save energy in various ways. You can reduce the temperature in your home to about 20-21 degrees Celsius or replace light bulbs with energy-saving ones. Do not leave devices in stand-by mode and maximize the use of energy from renewable sources.
