Built on the only hill that dominates the Marquisate of Zenete, the Calahorra Castle is considered the first Renaissance construction of the Peninsula, and has been declared a National Monument. The panoramic view of the Calahorra Castle dominating the landscape of the peaks of Sierra Nevada in the background is impressive and does not leave the visitor indifferent. La Ragua Pass It is no longer necessary to travel to Sierra Nevada to enjoy the snow. A few kilometers from Cuevas del Zenete is the Puerto de la Ragua, with circuits enabled for cross-country skiing and sledding. It also offers the possibility of numerous hiking trails. The natural space that this environment gathers is one of the most unknown places in the Sierra Nevada National Park. Marquesado and Alpujarra, are a framework for the enjoyment of outdoor activities, hiking, cross-country skiing... Bad Lands The badlands of Guadix have nothing to envy to the American Grand Canyon. They are a type of ruinous landscape of arid characteristics and lithology rich in clays, extensively eroded by wind and water due to the lack of vegetation. It is a beautiful and wild place where you will have an unforgettable experience. Canyons, gullies, ravines, channels and other geological forms of the style are common in the badlands, presenting spectacular ranges of colors, alternating layers ranging from bluish black to the white of gypsum, passing through the bright red of some clays. Dolmens of Gorafe Gorafe is the municipality with the largest number of dolmens in Spain and part of Europe. There are ten necropolis distributed in the municipality. A unique landscape formed by 198 dolmens. The megalithic park of Gorafe allows to admire through four routes its almost 200 dolmens. There are also remains of Roman colonies and the only European vestiges of medieval artifical troglodytism.
