After 15 restless years between the Andes and the Himalayas, I was looking for a permanent anchor in 2014—and found it not far from the Baltic Sea: an old farmhouse in a village with 27 inhabitants. Financed by crowdfunding and supported by many helping hands, this place has since grown into a place for encounters, culture, and joint creativity. In 2018, the Kunterbunthof was voted one of the "10 most beautiful places to get away from it all in Europe." At the foot of Northern Europe's largest slingshot, a Breton yurt was built, and under the walnut tree, a tiny house. In 2019, a guest said to me: He loved my dreams – but I didn't have the money to realize them in my lifetime. Would he be allowed to change that? He gave us a yurt and said he now had a good reason to spend the next ten years vacationing here. In the same year, the farm was named "Most Popular Holiday Farm in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania." The Kunterbunthof is a place to arrive. For people who seek silence, enjoy sitting around the campfire, appreciate good Spanish wines, write, think, create – or simply want to unwind. The noise of the big city stays outside, conversations and time come closer again. Located between the Baltic Sea and the Sternberg Lake District, the farm is an ideal starting point for cycling and hiking tours, excursions to the nature-protected island of Poel or to the historic Hanseatic cities of Rostock, Wismar, and Lübeck. The sea, lakes, and culture are close by – and yet everything feels far away. Curious?
