Description
Villa Greta is a guesthouse and slow-food restaurant located in the countryside, in Dobkow, Lower Silesia, in the heart of the picturesque Land of Extinct Volcanoes, which is a UNESCO Geopark since 2024. Villa Greta consists of 5 restored buildings of an old farmhouse: the Main Building (8 rooms and restaurant), Arnold's House (4 suites and two rooms: 42 m2 and 32 m2), the Old Coach House (4 premium doubles and a rustic 150 m2 room downstairs), the Barn with a gallery with regional products and the Orchard House. The grounds are surrounded by several acres of orchards and meadows. Hidden in the orchard is a large author's playground, and in the meadow in season is a 1 hectare labyrinth mowed in the grass. In winter we have a hill for sledding. There is also a place for a bonfire and barbecue. During vacations, vacations, long weekends, creative workshops are held in Villa Greta, our village and surrounding villages. The interior of the restaurant uses the old farm buildings, renovated with taste, which have belonged to the family for nearly 140 years. The restaurant room is housed in a barn built of post-volcanic rocks and supported by granite columns, where the owner's great-grandmother's wedding monidło hangs on the wall. NOTE: The restaurant is closed during the Christmas and Easter holidays. The unusual post-German history of the place and of Lower Silesia as a whole is told by the surroundings, but also by Greta's cuisine, using Christopher's grandmother's recipes. It nurtures traditional flavors, following the seasons and the culinary needs of guests, as the Gault & Millau guide has recognized each year. Ewelina said: "We have it easier, why? Because some of the products we cook with come from our farm, others, from neighbors and local farmers we know well. It's easier to get good from good." We also host those who have eaten in the best places in the world. But after all, when traveling ourselves, we look for authentic flavors right in the provinces. The menu is dominated by simplicity, without fancy ingredients. The classics of Polish seasonal cuisine have a solid representation here. In summer there are, for example, potatoes with dill and kefir served with a fried egg as a dish with the graceful name "flavors of childhood," or in spring nettle soup with an egg from a runny liliputka. Local mutton or tender rabbit will satisfy the hungriest. In season, the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables especially benefits vegetarians, to whom a section of the menu is dedicated. NOTE: The restaurant is closed during the Christmas and Easter holidays. It is free, especially in summer, when our guests can enjoy the countryside surrounding the restaurant and commune with nature. We seat 60 people in the restaurant room, in summer a little more, as guests sit in the garden surrounding the guesthouse, spreading out through the orchard, choosing intimate tables in its nooks and crannies. Some of them allow you to watch the little ones playing on the remarkable playground. After lunch, you can choose to stroll through the meadow, up a hill overlooking extinct volcanoes, or recline in the shade of an apple tree. Children usually immediately use their new energy in the maze mowed in the more than a hectare meadow, or go for a walk under the forest together with their parents. They have a paradise here, which is why we also often host tour groups of children on green schools and adults, offering meals flexibly tailored to different diets as well. The restaurant is a partner in the Discovery Passport of the Geopark of the Land of Extinct Volcanoes, and holds its Certificate of Quality, and the stamp is earned here. In addition, comfortable accommodation (14 rooms and the Orchard House for 8 people) and a non-hotel breakfast will complete the magic of the place, the magic of tradition. You will find time to talk at the table with your family in a house with history or in a country garden, surrounded by an old orchard, away from the road. Slow live, slow food can also be your pleasure / your participation. CAMPERS We have a large meadow. Access to water and electricity. 5 toilets available around the clock. A restaurant on site. We are finishing construction of a bathroom with shower and steel sink. Maybe in May '25 we can put it at the disposal of guests.
