Monuments such as the Basilica of Santa María del Concejo and the medieval tower stand out, evoking the historical importance of Llanes as a defensive enclave. The fishing port, one of the hearts of the town, comes alive with small boats and the bustle of marine activity, while the colorful "Cubos de la Memoria", a work of modern art that adorns the breakwater, add a contemporary touch to the coastal landscape. The surroundings of Llanes offer a nature of contrasts ranging from imposing mountains to fine sandy beaches. The beaches of Toró, Barro and Gulpiyuri, the latter famous for being an inland beach formed in a depression surrounded by meadows, are just some of the natural gems within easy reach of the town. The crystal clear waters of the Bay of Biscay bathe these shores, which alternate between dramatic cliffs and small hidden coves, perfect for those seeking tranquility. Coastal paths, such as the Senda de los Bufones, allow hikers to enjoy spectacular views and observe natural phenomena such as the bufones, where seawater gushes out of the cliffs forming columns of steam. Beyond the coast, the interior of Llanes is dominated by the green valleys and mountains of the Sierra del Cuera, which act as an imposing backdrop. These rural landscapes are dotted with small villages and hamlets where life goes by at a leisurely pace, amidst green meadows and forests. Here, visitors can enjoy activities such as hiking or exploring rural Asturian culture. The proximity to the Picos de Europa also allows for more mountainous adventures, with hiking trails leading to viewpoints and remote villages.
