Description
No one wanted to purchase the old house in dire condition that stood across the street from the former square in Vijayny. Until it finally came into my hands, and I do not shy away from the challenge of saving forgotten buildings. When the shell of the building's facade and asbestos roof disappeared, its true wooden heart was revealed. It used to be a modest cottage heated by tiled stoves. When it was dismantled, only the skeleton remained, which became the basis for a modern house - full of space, with a wooden smell and industrial decor. Only an old door reminds us that during the communist era it housed a detention center. Before that, the building served as a post of the Citizen's Militia, and during the war it was the headquarters of one of Hitler's formations. Now a relaxation and meeting area has been created on the first floor in an open space, while upstairs there are 4 bedrooms and a separate apartment in the adjacent sauna, which together can accommodate up to 18 people. An ideal place to spend time together, socialize or have intimate celebrations. In Wiżajny, in the old inn "Turowo", King Ladislaus Jagiello once dined on crayfish. It is from the Lithuanian name of these crustaceans that the name of this quiet, somewhat forgotten village is derived, which long ago lost the luster it had in the days of intensive trade and smuggling. Today, Wiżajny, located in the East Suwalskie Lake District, between lakes Wistuć and Wiżajny, invites you to admire the picturesque landscapes left here by the glacier. Numerous streams and rivers flow through the area, dense forests surround it, and ubiquitous herds of cows graze on the blue lakes. There are more than 30 of them in the area, and some of them have particularly interesting names, such as Slepak, Prudek, Kuprelek and Staneluszki. Numerous local attractions will compete for attention here - from the tri-junction of borders, to railroad bridges reminiscent of the Pont du Gard, to Suwałki's "Fujiama." However, you can just as well simply relax by the fireplace, unwind in the sauna or take a bath in a log. Be sure to also try the local rennet cheeses and the traditional fire-baked knot cake.
